tertium quid
   термин в средневековой логике, обозначающий поиск "чего-то третьего", когда две противоположности уже были изучены и ни одна не дала удовлетворительного ответа. В более общем смысле это относится к среднему направлению как альтернативе крайностям в этической дилемме.
